Wikipedia article

This article is about the current version of DF.
Note that some content may still need to be updated.

Not to be confused with kiwifruit.
A small, brown, flightless bird. It eats insects and grubs and is known for its keen sense of smell.

Kiwis are small flightless birds who can be found in temperate forests and shrublands, where they spawn individually. Benign and only half the size of a cat, they do nothing but root around the ground, eating vermin and fleeing from dwarves who try and hunt them. A male kiwi is called a kiwi cock, while a female is called a kiwi hen.

Kiwis can be captured in cage traps and trained into cheap exotic pets. They produce a tiny amount of returns when butchered and only lay up to 2 eggs at a time, making them poor choices for livestock. However, they are fairly long lived for wild animals, making them potentially long-lasting companions for dwarves who adopt them.

Some dwarves like kiwis for their long beaks.

D4Dwarf.png This article or section has been rated D for Dwarf. It may include witty humour, not-so-witty humour, bad humour, in-jokes, pop culture references, and references to the Bay12 forums. Don't believe everything you read, and if you miss some of the references, don't worry. It was inevitable.

Some dwarves like to engrave boxes with this bird and put stimulating toys inside for young dwarves to occupy themselves with.

Admired for their long beaks
