Wikipedia article

This article is about the current version of DF.
Note that some content may still need to be updated.

A small omnivorous animal with a bright mask of fur. It is nocturnal and found in temperate forests. It is a curious animal and has been known to steal from civilized areas.

Raccoons are not dangerous but can be extremely annoying as they steal unattended items and food. They can be dealt with easily by an armed dwarf or a hunter.

Use

They can be tamed but because of their drops and relatively low return yield, taming raccoons is rarely useful unless a player is very short on food. It should be noted, though, that despite their size, raccoons don't have the [BENIGN] tag, and, as such, will attack any hostiles they come across. Their usefulness in combat is limited, however, by their small size and the fact they can't be trained, although they can occasionally get a lucky shot.
