Wikipedia article

This article is about the current version of DF.
Note that some content may still need to be updated.

A large hooved animal with curved horns and a thick brown coat. It is known for its strong odor.

Muskoxen are large animals who inhabit tundras and temperate grasslands, where they appear in herds of 3-7 individuals. Slightly smaller than a donkey, these creatures are benign and will flee from dwarves rather than cause them trouble, making them easy targets for your hunters. They are able to pull wagons and can be used as pack animals by merchants. They possess thick fur which provides them with increased insulation compared to most other animals, and their young are called calves.

Muskoxen can be captured in cage traps and trained into fairly valuable exotic pets. They are grazers and require a pasture to survive after being trained. They provide a good amount of returns when butchered and serve as a source of hooves if no others are available.

Some dwarves like muskoxen for their strength.

Admired for its strength.
