Products made out of elk parts are worth twice as much as those made from domestic animals like cattle or cats. Due to their great size, they produce a lot of raw materials for bone carvers. They also have a decent pet value and may be tamed with an animal trainer. Elk require a pasture to survive.

Wikipedia article

This article is about the current version of DF.
Note that some content may still need to be updated.

A large hooved animal found roaming wild in temperate forests. The males have long antlers.

Elk are animals who inhabit temperate grasslands and tundras, appearing in groups of 3-7 individuals. Five times heavier than a dwarf, they're benign meanderers who do little but wander around aimlessly, being relatively harmless and easy for hunters to take down. They possess some sexual dimorphism, with the males having a pair of antlers, though it doesn't give them the ability to gore enemies. They possess thick fur which provides them with increased insulation compared to most other animals, and their young are called fawns.

Elk can be captured in cage traps and trained into exotic pets. Given their large size, they provide a good amount of returns when butchered, making them valid targets for a meat industry. Products made from elk parts are worth twice more than those made from other, more common animals.

Some dwarves like elk for their grace.

Admired for its grace.
