Wikipedia article

This article is about the current version of DF.
Note that some content may still need to be updated.

A huge herbivore with thick plated skin and powerful build. It is known for the thick horns on the end of its nose.

Morphological differences notwithstanding, rhinoceroses are essentially small elephants. On their own they are one of the largest land-based creatures in the game. Like elephants, they are found in tropical biomes often in small herds and can be tamed and trained by an animal trainer. As a war animal, their large size and gore attacks make them an extremely fearsome threat.

Combat

Rhinoceroses are dangerous animals with thick layers of skin and fat, insulating them against damage. A piercing weapon like a pike or spear works best for killing them, as non piercing weapon, such as bronze axes tend to just cut their fat without causing any serious damage quickly. They can be useful for training up skills; since they resist damage so well, you'll be able to fight them for a long time before they die.

Wrestling chokeholds can also kill them since it bypasses their layers of protection.

Rhinos usually have no problem hurting you. Their horns are very dangerous to a new adventurer.
