Wikipedia article

This article is about the current version of DF.
Note that some content may still need to be updated.

A very small reptile with a prehensile tail and giant claws on its second foredigits.

The drepanosaurus is a tiny prehistoric reptile, appearing in temperate forests which extinct creatures can inhabit, wherever you set them to during world generation. It can be easily hunted for meat by dispatching a military recruit to kill it, since it is slow, harmless, and sizable enough to provide at least some when butchered. Alternatively, it can be captured in cage traps and bred for eggs, since it is not only a more prolific egg layer than domestic poultry but also considerably longer-lived, which can come into play when retiring the fortress. Training the hatchlings will make them fully tame.

Some dwarves like drepanosauruses for their prehensile tails and giant second foredigit claws.

Admired for their prehensile tails.
