A small feathered bipedal dinosaur with a sharp scything claw on its second toe. It can run very quickly.

The Velociraptor is a small, extinct carnivorous dinosaur from the Cretaceous period. It is found in savage tropical shrublands, badlands and rocky wastelands. As with all real-world extinct creatures, they must be endabled during world creation to spawn. Velociraptors, unlike what some humans might try to convince you, have feathers. Baby Velociraptors are known as hatchlings.

Velociraptors can do serious damage to dwarves, but are far from a fort-ending threat. Some might concider them as an alternative to chickens and turkeys due to their large clutch size, though they must beware of the dinosplosion that might ensue.

In combat they are mostly inferior to their larger cousin, the Deinonychus, which means they should be saved for meat and egg industry. Butchering a velociraptor additionally drops a Gizzard stone, which is another advantage that velociraptors have over turkeys. Although individually not much, the value gained from gizzard stones will add up in mass production.

Some dwarves like velociraptors for their scything claws, their speed and their feathers.

Cats of royal lineage have been known to adopt these creatures as pets.

Human legends mention them possessing the ability to open doors to catch hiding prey. However, this has never been observed by dwarven scholars, and remains nothing more than a rumor. Many believe they encountered a velociraptor man, instead. Similarly, humans, as foolish as they are, have often confused deinonychus for velociraptor, in process overstating the latter's size and abilities. On another related note, dwarves have long observed the peculiar tendency of humans to tantrum upon being told that velociraptors (and many similar dinosaurs) are feathered rather than scaled. Precisely why the tall folk find this knowledge so traumatic is a mystery presumably known only to Armok.
