Wikipedia article

This article is about the current version of DF.
Note that some content may still need to be updated.

Not to be confused with sea otters.
A small river mammal with a long body. They enjoy eating shellfish and other small animals.

River otters are small amphibious creatures found in lakes, rivers and pools, where they appear in groups of 1-4 individuals. While carnivorous, they are benign and will generally not pose a threat to anything. A newborn river otter is called a pup.

River otters can be captured in cage traps and trained into cheap exotic pets. They give fairly low returns if butchered, serving as an emergency source of food if needed, but there are far better animals to consider using in a meat industry.

Some dwarves like river otters for their playfulness and their fluffy faces.

Admired for their fluffy faces.
