A small river mammal with a flat tail, known for building wooden dams.

Fortunately or unfortunately, beavers in Dwarf Fortress do not actually build dams. Appearing in clusters of three to ten, they instead tend to meander aimlessly through your surroundings. Some dwarves prefer them for their "tree-felling habits", and young beavers are known as "kits" in-game.
