A huge mammal with a long trunk and two tusks.

Pygmy mammoths (mammuthus exilis) are extinct elephant-like mammals from the Cenozoic era. They live in temperate grassland and shrubland in groups of 3 to 7 animals. They usually stick to savage areas, but world generation options can make them appear in wilderness, already domesticated, or completely extinct. They are the smallest elephant-like creature, barely bigger than water buffalo. Wild pygmy mammoths are peaceful grazers, but if cornered, they can kick with their front feet and gore with their blunt tusks.

When domesticated or tamed, pygmy mammoths can be trained for war. They can be pack animals for traders, carrying twice the load of normal pack animals. They require a large pasture to survive, so a war pygmy mammoth assigned to a Dwarf that works indoors may starve. They grow to full size in 5 years, but only become adults at 10 years. They can live for 50 to 70 years.

All their products are worth 4x the normal amount. Despite their slow growth, they produce more meat at 2 years old than most standard domestic animals. They do not produce milk, despite being mammals. "pygmy mammoth head hair" (only obtainable from by a Butcher) can be spun into 2 pygmy mammoth hair thread at a Farmer's workshop, but this thread cannot be woven into cloth. It's only useful for suturing wounds. Pygmy mammoth skin can be tanned into 3x pygmy mammoth leather at a Tanner's shop.

Some Dwarves like Pygmy Mammoths for their size and hairy heads.
